The Affirmative Procurement project is a three-year programme that focuses on promoting the inclusion and empowerment of women-owned\/led businesses to access opportunities in public procurement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaduna was selected because of its gender-inclusive government; the state currently has 53% female commissioners and boasts of the first female deputy governor in northern Nigeria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/kadppa.kdsg.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1830\" srcset=\"http:\/\/web.kadppa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-3-1.jpg 720w, http:\/\/web.kadppa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-3-1-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><strong>A cross-section of UN Women officials and KADPPA&#8217;s Management Team.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Themed, \u201cWomen\u2019s Empowerment through Affirmative Procurement Reform in Nigeria,\u201d the Minister of Women Affairs, Paullen Tallen said the project is aimed at inculcating gender-responsive procurement processes as a panacea for advancing economic empowerment to women entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Affirmative Procurement project includes policy reforms, institutional strengthening of public sector institutions to adopt and implement affirmative procurement provisions; advocacy to support private sector adoption of gender-responsive supply chain practices, and capacity strengthening of women owned businesses to access procurement opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/kadppa.kdsg.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1828\" srcset=\"http:\/\/web.kadppa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-1.jpg 720w, http:\/\/web.kadppa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/FotoJet-1-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><strong>A cross-section of attendees.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was officially launched in Kaduna State on the 28th of October 2022, by the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Haj. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe at the Umaru Musa Yar\u2019adua International Conference Centre Kaduna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the project, the Director General, KADPPA, Engr. Sanusi Yero (FNSE) cited research findings that women-led businesses were not benefitting in public procurement opportunities.
